Frequently Asked Questions

What is a composite textile?

Carbon fiber begins as a thread — a filament finer than human hair, carbonized at extreme heat until only the carbon structure remains. Those filaments are woven into fabric.

What results is a textile in the truest sense: pliable, tactile, capable of drape — but one where the fiber itself carries structural load. Bonded with an epoxy resin matrix and cured, the composite weighs roughly one-quarter of steel at equivalent strength, does not corrode, and holds its geometry under conditions that deform conventional materials.

Aerospace and motorsport adopted it first because the performance margins were impossible to achieve otherwise. Artificial Objects applies the same material logic to the construction of carried objects.

Engineered, Not Just Sewn

Each RC-Series piece is realized through a specialized international production network
assembled specifically for AO.

After sourcing, the carbon fiber undergoes a proprietary
coloration process — a rarity in a category where the material has historically been limited to
black — followed by a stabilization process that transforms the raw textile into a flexible, sewable
material suitable for soft-goods construction.

From there, custom hardware is produced and
assembled through U.S. soft-goods manufacturing expertise more typically associated with industrial
and advanced product development than with conventional fashion production.

Definition of 'artificial object'

Artificial Objects’ identity is drawn from scientific nomenclature, in which an “artificial object” is defined as a man-made form engineered to survive in space, in conditions and destinations unknown.

That definition is AO’s operating standard, and the RC-Series is its first expression.
